Official Doomsday For Windows XP Announced

Microsoft has revealed that the long reign of Windows XP operating system will come to an end on April 8, 2014. Along with the all-time favorite Windows OS, technical support for Windows XP Professional for Embedded Systems and Microsoft Office 2003 will also be terminated. Microsoft tech support center thereby urges XP and Office 2003 users to move on to latest platforms, as no more security updates and patches will be issued for the said programs after the term end.

Most businesses rely on Windows XP because of its reliability, easy functioning, simple graphical user interface, and widespread compatibility with third party software programs. Thus, business entities are pressurized to quickly move on to another platform that would offer such features, and ensure security of the data in their systems.

As soon as the official tech support for XP ends, hackers will be free to target the outdated system. Speaking on the matter in Lagos, Awawu Olumide-Sojinrin, the acting country manager for Microsoft Nigeria, said Microsoft understands the situation, and thus is notifying the Windows XP user community to migrate to another platform before the cut-off date.

“Migration is taken for granted until it is experienced. It is therefore wise for customers and partners to move with the changing technology trend by migrating to the Windows 8 and Office 2013 platform within the 8-month period,” she said in the conference.

Microsoft tech support suggests users to migrate to Windows 8 operating system, which is optimized for modern business trends. Built on the foundation of Windows 7 platform, the latest member of the Windows family offers the best speed, reliability, and security features that users have ever experienced before.

With features like Direct Access in Windows 8, businesses can gain better productivity and mobility, as it allows users to use the resources provided by the organization when on the go. Director of Solutions & Sales datacenter specialist at Microsoft Nigeria, Oluyomi Alarape said, “There are several re-engineering and attacks that needs to be catered for as a result of the changing technology landscape. Businesses stand to have huge risks if they do not migrate because there will be no security updates to meet security requirements.”

As it is obvious that people nowadays are more inclined towards mobile devices like tablet PCs and smartphones, which offer the same services as a traditional desktop would. Thus, Microsoft officials believe that the ultra-modern Windows 8 operating system, which is capable to serve both the conventional desktops as well as touch screen devices like Tablets, would be a great platform for businesses to move on to.

Use Windows To Go, And Transform The Way You Work

Even though Windows 8 is out, many enterprises are still just making the transition to Windows 7. Other companies meanwhile,  are still using Windows XP, released over a decade ago.
However as Windows XP will not get support in a year from now, it is highly advantageous to have a Windows 8 transfer. A solution to this dilemma is migrating to Windows 8 Enterprise, which has the Windows To Go feature. This allows you to have a Windows 8 image, which can be transferred using a USB drive, allowing you to make any compatible PC into your very own personal workstation.

BYOD

The “bring your own device” is something that has been attributed to smartphones and tablets but many enterprises have employees bringing in their own laptops. Even though this method benefits both company and employee, it does raise important security and software compatibility issues.
Windows To Go is a solution that extends itself far ahead of BYOD. This empowers employees to run on any Windows 7 or Windows 8 PC without having to bring a computer every time they come to office. Booting up can be done using the thumb drive and instantly your home computer transforms into a work PC. Not to forget that all associated application, programs and policies are integrated. So, you can work at home with a system as powerful as the one in your office.
Windows To Go can also be employed as a replacement for VPN or any cloud based virtualization, for mobile users. Even if you have to work in an unreliable network environment you can boot with Windows To Go, and get your work done without a hassle.

How to set Windows To Go
There are some three prerequisites to set up Windows To Go:
  • Windows 8 Enterprise OS,
  • A USB thumb drive with storage space of at least 32 GB,
  • Windows 8 Enterprise image file that is created using sysrep.
To set up use the following instructions
  • Launch Windows To Go Creator Wizard
  • Choose the drive you wish to use and
  • Choose an appropriate Windows 8 image
The Windows To Go setup process will format the drive, so do make a backup before you begin the process. Preferably encrypt the thumb drive using a BitLocker.
The Windows To Go tool is the perfect tool for managing BYOD, as you get the benefits at both ends - the employer retains control over tools and data, and employee gets privacy and freedom by not having business tools on their personal system. Make use of Windows 8 transfer to enjoy the Windows To Go tool, and change the way you do business.

Microsoft To Launch Office Suite For Android Devices

Microsoft is prepared to launch a striped down version of their Office suite programs for the Android phones shortly, but the sad news is that the software will not work on tablets working on Android operating system. The software is available as a whole pack and is not available for sale independently. The catch is that one should pay $100 a year for subscribing the software for a year. The new version of the Office compatible with Android is released so as to conquer the smart phone market as Android is the operating system on which most of the smart phones run.

According to the latest news from Microsoft help forum, Microsoft’s Office 365 is available in the Windows tablets now but not in the tablets released in other operating systems. By their new move, Microsoft is planning to increase the reach and the need for buying an Office subscription, as only with this you will be able to access the popular Office suite programs like Word, Excel and PowerPoint in your mobile device running any OS.

This is the new business strategy of Microsoft, to make the customers pay for the subscription on a regular basis so that they could use the programs in any devices by providing free updates. However, this is pricier when compared to the old-fashioned one time pay method where the customer pays once for buying the product and can use it for a long time. According to the sources in the Microsoft help forum, they have developed this Office application specifically to run on low screen devices although the user may prefer reading the documents in large screen tablets. But the good news is that Microsoft has also launched a version for tablets running in iOS and Android, but the catch is that the Web Apps application is browser oriented program and requires internet connectivity to work.

With an Office 365 subscription, a customer can use the Office program in up to ten different devices. Five of the devices can be Windows or Mac PCs or tablets and the other five can be iPhone or Android devices. However, the Windows phone device comes with pre installed Office and will not be counted in the numbers. The Office designed for Android devices is meant for light use that you can use it for viewing and editing a document received as an attachment but there is no option to create a complex spreadsheet from scratch.

Fix DVD Drive Detection Problem In Windows 8

The bungling of such a simple feature that heretofore was with minimal flaws, makes Microsoft seem negligent. Essentially, the user cannot play or access a CD or DVD, because the drive is not displayed in Windows Explorer or even in the Device Manager. This Windows 8 issue may occur if the OS installed is corrupted, or a previous version of it is updated.
Though the root causes are yet unknown, there are a few possible fixes for this issue. The same are listed below for the convenience of the Windows users who face this issue.

Method 1
  • Run the command prompt from the Start menu in Windows. Do this with the administrator rights. When the User account access dialog appears, click YES. Alternatively, refer the Windows 8 guide for other methods to launch a program with admin rights.
  • When prompted, paste the following code:
  • reg.exe add "HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\atapi\Controller0" /f /v EnumDevice1 /t REG_DWORD /d 0×00000001
  • Close the command prompt and restart the computer. The issue must be repaired by now.
If the above procedure does not work for you, then continue to the next method.
Method 2
If you are too lazy to open the command prompt and get the code in, try using a free utility to induce the detection of the CD or DVD drive by the system. CD-DVD Icon Repair is one such tool that can be downloaded freely from the internet. It is a portable software that works to make Windows recognize the presence of the CD or DVD drive on the system. Though it was primarily designed for use with Windows 7, it is seen to run effectively and without problems on the Windows 8 OS also. All you need to do is launch the software, and when you have done this, click on the Repair CD-DVD Icon button. This’ll fix the problem after you have restarted the PC.
These are the main fixes to the issue with the DVD drive detection in Windows 8. For further queries or assistance, you can contact the Microsoft Support Center.

Image Importing To MS Word

Microsoft Word is one of the most commonly used software platforms dedicated to word-processing. You can create reports, documents, letters and resumes using this software. This application supports almost all types of image files, and has the provision to import images from other files. You can add some predefined pictures from the Clip Art folder in the application. These are low resolution images, usually cartoons and designs, which can be freely used in MS Word. To insert these images you need to click on the Clip Art option, which is available on the Insert tab of the application window.
Next to the Clip Art option, in the Insert tab, you will also see an option to add images labeled Picture. The images that can be used in MS word have to fall under certain restrictions:

File Types: Not all image files can loaded into MS Word; here is a list of the ones it’s compatible with; jpeg, png, bmp, dib, gfa, emz, wmz, rle, emf, wmf, jpg, jfif, bmz, gif. If you try using a file extension that is not compatible, the file cannot be viewed. You might be disappointed to hear that popular extensions like psd and ai for Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop, are also neither compatible.

Size of the File: an image’s compatibility in MS Word also depends on the image size. Very large uncompressed files may have difficulty being loaded in MS Word. In some cases it may also lead to a system crash, so the file’s compatibility is hugely dependent on the system specification as well as the version of MS word you have on the system. If you wish to add images that are big in size, see if you can compress and shrink them before importing into Word. This should probably fix any problem.

Image Resolution: Resolution differs from file size, although these are easily confused. Though relatable, a large-resolution file cannot be loaded similar to a large size file. In case it doesn’t load, only part of the image will be visible, and the rest will be cropped off. In newer versions of MS Word you may be able to shrink the images to acceptable dimensions. Those using older versions should attempt to make the image resolution smaller before importing into the application.
If you have any issues with your Microsoft Word application check them up with Microsoft support. The Microsoft support team will be available at any time you need assistance, and would provide quick and reliable solutions for your issues.

Solve Issues Related To Optical Mouse

Today you get different types of computer mice from the conventional mechanical mouse to the ultra-modern cordless 3-D mouse. Optical mouse, Bluetooth mouse, infrared mouse and trackball mouse are a few of them. Though all these basically deliver the same purpose, the working principle is what makes the difference. Mechanical mouse is almost obsolete as it is more prone to malfunctioning and faults.

Here we will be discussing more about the optical mouse and its various troubleshooting methods
.
What is an Optical Mouse?

An optical mouse is actually a pointing device that’s used for controlling the movement of the computer’s pointer. It works in the same way as a mouse ball. The main difference between using an optical mouse instead of mouse ball regards its precision. It makes use of an LED sensor to detect tabletop movements and then sends off that information to the computer for merry-munching. An optical mouse provides you with precise movements and a better control. Like any other hardware, there are instances where your optical mouse can encounter some issues. Here I’m discussing some tips that will assist you to correct the Microsoft problems related to Optical Mice.

Regarding Port

An optical mouse, whether it is wired or wireless, is usually connected to the computer through ports. The connecting port may be USB or PS2, and that too, depends on the mouse you’re using. If your machine is having a port that is damaged, then your system won’t recognize the device, and will not be able to connect to the computer. In this scenario, you can connect your mouse to another port. This will likely solve this issue.

Regarding the Drivers

For connecting any external devices to your laptop, it requires proper drivers. Otherwise the devices won’t work on your machine. So for the proper working of an Optical mouse, you should install appropriate drivers for it. If you are using an outdated driver, it’s better to update it by going to the Microsoft website.

Regarding the System

For the proper working of Optical mice, your system should have a functioning port and current drivers, and the mouse you are using should be compatible with your computer. If your mouse is not working with your computer, try to connect this to another computer, and see whether it is working or not. If it is working with the second computer, then the problem will be with your first computer.

If you have any further Microsoft problems with your optical mouse, contact Microsoft Support Center for needed assistance.

How To Set Up An Email Account In Windows 8

Communication by means of email messages is gaining much importance these days as compared to earlier decades. Furthermore, it provides greater flexibility when compared to other mediums of communication. Microsoft has provided email support in all versions of its operating system. In the new version Windows 8, an integrated email support has been provided.

With the new Metro Interface, it is easy for you to manage the messaging facility. However, the Metro interface Start screen in Windows 8 has its own disadvantages as well. You can switch to the Windows Live mail in case you do not need to use the integrated email support in Windows 8 OS.

Configuring Email using Windows 8 support utility

  • Create an account with the Windows Live ID. After opening the account, log in to Windows. Launch the Windows Metro interface screen and choose the Mail icon.
  • The screen displays three panes. The left pane displays the accounts and the right pane shows the Hotmail calendar including the alert messages. You can see the messages in the centre pane. Add a new account using the Settings charm. Use your finger and move the cursor to the top right of the screen. Alternatively, press the Windows key along with C. Select Settings and again choose Accounts.
  • The screen will show up a new pane. You need to tap ‘Add an account and type in the needed details of your new account’.
  • Now, choose the type of account you need. Enter by typing the email address and password of the account. Now, select Connect. If needed, you can start this process again to add multiple accounts. To delete an email account, wait for the Delete button after you tap and hold the icon.

Limited email accounts in Windows 8 OS

You can choose the App preview; however, with limited functions, it works with Gmail, Hotmail and Exchange account only. Moreover, it is not clearly stated if you could add other types of email accounts rather than theses accounts. If you are using other types of email accounts, you may find it hard to move on with these three email clients. You can choose the Windows Live mail utility in the desktop view in case you need to use the POP accounts.

You can also visit the Windows 8 support website to implement successful configuration of emails in the Windows 8 operating system. Or else, you can seek the help of our chat utility to set up the email account.
